Limiting Screen Time for Children With Positive Discipline Tools

Limiting Screen Time for Children With Positive Discipline Tools

A new resource for managing family screen time

Screen time has become part of the daily routine for many families. Children of all ages seem to be spending time with tablets,TVs, computers and games these days. While screens can be a source of entertainment, fun and learning, too much screen time can leave families disconnected and disengaged.

For some families, screens are a source of stress and conflict. Recent research shows that many young children actually struggle to get their parents’ attention away from handheld devices. Parents also often feel overwhelmed and annoyed with battles over screen time and worried about what their children may be accessing online. For children, excessive screen time really is detrimental to healthy cognitive and motor development.

Does this mean all screen time is bad and should be banned? No, like most things, I believe a positive approach is to find balance and to set and keep limits surrounding screen time in a healthy way.

So, how to strike a healthy balance when it comes to kids and screen time?
How can you set a good example about not being always glued to your phone or iPad?
How to avoid power struggles about turning off the xbox, the tv and iPad?
What are some positive ways to set guidelines and rules about screens?

Help! My Child is Addicted to Screens (Yikes! So Am I.): Positive Discipline Tools for Managing Family Screen Time is a new ebook filled with Positive Discipline tools that will help you and your children connect more with each other and find a balance in your family’s media use.

The book is written by  Jane Nelson, Ed. D. of the Positive Discipline Series and Kelly Bartlett, parenting educator, author and a regular contributor of the Positive Parenting Connection.

If you are familiar with the Positive Discipline Series, the guidelines will feel familiar and helpful. If you haven’t read any of the Positive Discipline books, no worries, because in this new book, you will find practical ideas you can put into place right away.

If screen time is a problem or something you find yourself nagging your kids about, feeling guilty about or just need a bit of help managing better, this book can be a wonderful resource.
